There's a Hole In the Bucket

When I was young, I watched a play at our local Hall called "There's a hole in the bucket" (based on a very old Childrens' Folk Song - sorry I can't find the Author). At the time, I thought it was funny and I didn't really think of the significance of it. The other day, the song suddenly came into my mind and I started to think about it.
Too many times in our life we make excuses for not doing something - it is all too hard. If we continue to think that way about things our life just goes round in a circle and we don't get anywhere.
We need to forget about the excuses, make up our mind to change our lifestyle, or go for that new job, or just be a happier person and get on with it, against all odds and things WILL change.

Here are the words:

There's a Hole in the Bucket

"There's a hole in the bucket,
Dear Liza, dear Liza
There's a hole in the bucket,
Dear Liza, there's a hole.

Then fix it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
Then fix it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, fix it.

With what shall I fix it,
Dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I fix it,
Dear Liza, with what?

With a straw, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
With a straw, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, with a straw.

But the straw is too long,
Dear Liza, dear Liza
But the straw is too long,
Dear Liza, too long

Then cut it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
Then cut it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, cut it.

With what shall I cut it,
Dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I cut it,
Dear Liza, with what?

With an axe, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
With an axe, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, an axe.

The axe is too dull,
Dear Liza, dear Liza
The axe is too dull,
Dear Liza, too dull

Then sharpen it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
Then sharpen it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, sharpen it.

With what shall I sharpen it,
Dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I sharpen it,
Dear Liza, with what?

With a stone, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
With a stone, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, a stone.

The stone is too dry,
Dear Liza, dear Liza
The stone is too dry,
Dear Liza, too dry

Then wet it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
Then wet it, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, wet it.

With what shall I wet it,
Dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I wet it,
Dear Liza, with what?

With water, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
With water, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, with water.

How shall I get it,
Dear Liza, dear Liza,
How shall I get it,
Dear Liza, how shall I?

In the bucket, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, dear Henry
In the bucket, dear Henry,
Dear Henry, in the bucket.

But there's a hole in the bucket, Dear Liza."

I found this slightly different version of the song: Click here to listen

You are so right - if we really want to achieve something we will find ways to achieve. On the other hand, we can also find a million reasons why we can't do something if our hearts aren't in it.
Thank you for reminding me that I can achieve what I want to if I really want it and am prepared to give it my all to achieve !
Have a great day !

Sometimes I catch myself finding excuses for not doing something, writing, reading, running errands, going to church, etc. And I have to stop and find excuses to do the thing.
Tell your son the car salesman to stay honest and caring, and he'll have more business than he will know what to do with.

That is so true.. We should never underestimate our ability to achieve.. I tell my girls all the time that the tragedy doesnt lie in not reaching your goal , it lies in having no goal to reach.. so no more excuses lets go for it.
I dont recall the song from my childhood but remember Sally and this boy singing it on home n away yrs ago... ok I used to watch it lol.

Thanks Suzy! I really needed a kick in the bum this morning because I allowed my tiredness to be an excuse for poor decisions. Time to wake up!
