Fragile

Sorry I haven't been blogging lately. I have been busy helping friends after their Dear Mum died last week. She was quite old, but she was still their Mum. It made me feel a bit fragile and brought back some memories of my own experiences.
So between that and my usual commitments I haven't had a lot of time.

I am about to try knitting socks for the first time. Dear daughter bought me a set of four needles and some sock wool. I have made quite a few things over the years, but have been afraid of socks, so here goes....

Have a lovely weekend everyone. I have a free day tomorrow and must catch up on housework, with some shopping thrown in.

Meet my new friends - Don and Betty

From this

I made these

for littlest to play with. I made Betty on Friday and she looked lonely, so I made Don last night.

I love St Patrick's Day. Maybe it's the Flanagan genes in me!

Knitting

If you are sick of seeing my knitting - look away now!!!

I made a short black pair of fingerless gloves (mitts) and a long grey pair this weekend. Both have a different cable pattern. The patterns don't show up well on the photos but do look nice. I know we are still having nice weather, but chilly mornings will soon be here, so I am getting prepared.
I found the patterns at "knitty.com"; a great site with lots of lovely patterns. Thankyou to all those talented designers for sharing their patterns with us.

Little Teddy and Tiny Teddies and Salad

Little Teddy

Here is a little teddy bear that I knitted the other night for a friend's new baby daughter. It is such an easy pattern and I found it by doing a search for "Little Teddy Knitting Pattern". Oh, I love the internet!

Tiny Teddies

My three littles have been staying the last three nights while their parents are away on a business trip to Melbourne. I made the green tiny teddy for littlest and then dear grandson decided he would like an orange one. I then made him the orange teddy and eldest grand-daughter (we are never too old for a teddy I say) chose yellow. I am minding the teddies while they are at school today. The three children have been so wonderful. They are a pleasure to have to stay. It makes me admire their parents even more for their hard work in managing three children while working and studying.

This is a yummy salad for hot days. - serves 2

Mix together -
1 cucumber diced("burpless")
snow peas or sugar snap peas diced (raw)
8 olives (optional)
1 tomato diced
pepper
2 teaspoons white vinegar
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sugar (I always sprinkle sugar on tomatoes to take away the acid)
small bunch of parsley chopped
small bunch of mint chopped

I am working Thursday and Friday this week, so I'll "talk" to you after the weekend. Have a good one!!!

Keeping my hands busy

Before and after.

My blog is turning into a bit of a craft blog lately, but I think that keeping my hands busy stops me searching for (and thinking about) snacks.
I had a set of place mats which had seen better days, so I decided to paint them (black of course) and decorate them. I painted them with craft paint, applied some stickers and sealed them with a mixture of craft glue and water and then varnished them. Voila! A new set of mats.

Have a lovely, fun weekend everyone!
