Keeping my hands busy

Before and after.

My blog is turning into a bit of a craft blog lately, but I think that keeping my hands busy stops me searching for (and thinking about) snacks.
I had a set of place mats which had seen better days, so I decided to paint them (black of course) and decorate them. I painted them with craft paint, applied some stickers and sealed them with a mixture of craft glue and water and then varnished them. Voila! A new set of mats.

Have a lovely, fun weekend everyone!

Now why have I never thought of doing that? !! I have chucked out so many over the years. DOH I am going to go and check out some old ones and do the same... wait for the photos!

Hello, just returning your visit. You're so clever to think of something like that. I haven't the patience or skill I'm afraid. My eldest daughter is clever with things though and loves to customise everything, like clothes etc. I guess that way you always have something original :)

You are just the most crafty clever person I know. I would never have thought of that. I have also chucked out placemats because they were daggy or outdated. What a waste!
Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

What a great idea! I have old placements like that somewhere - I have never thought of painting over them.......mmmmm.... I am a scrapbooker, so I could scrapbook them.

Love seeing your handiwork. I used to do alot once (pre kids and when I lived in a colder climate). Now I limit myself to my scrapbooking, which is as much a social outlet as a creative one.....

What project are you doing next?

Anyone would think you were raised during the depression - and I certainly do not mean that in a bad way at all - you just have that knack for making something out of nothing. It would be great if more people, myself included, thought to repair and recreate rather than replace. We live in a disposable world and it's not doing anyone any good. Precious resourses are wasted, perfectly good household items are discarded and there's the financial and emotional stress of keeping up with the Jones'.

PS. I have finally booked in for a knitting class!
